Contribuiți la feedbackA (large) group of us went for dinner and so we were seated on 2 tables. We chose to get drinks from the bar rather than table service to make payment easier at the end of the night. Houdidni's were very accommodating with this. There were about 20 of us, and like most large groups, some people arrived before others. I asked for menus for the early birds to try and streamline the choice/order process but was told they don't do things that way - they like to give everyone their menus at the same time. Time to order and several from my table ordered one of the specials (steak). When one hapless diner asked for her medium rare she was told that 6 people had ordered steak and so they would all be done the same ( medium). Extraordinary! Never had that comment at any restaurant I have ever visited. That said I was told the steaks were fabulous by all who had them. The fish of the day was orange roughy with a lemon and garlic sauce and fresh veg. A lovely meal.Everyone seemed happy with their food so top points there. They also have an extensive wine list. I would certainly go again
We went for lunch and had a variety of dishes including lamb parcels, gnocchi and bean and pasta soup for mains and red velvet lamington, panna cotta and lemon tart for dessert. While the meals are in the higher price bracket, the quality was well worth it and the excellent service was greatly appreciated. We felt important and our hostess offered suggestions that were just right. I will definitely recommend this restaurant and return when the occasion allows. You may need to book.
Our experience at Houdini's was dampened by the slow service, everyone was pleasant to deal with but it seemed quite difficult to get attention, and then it took over half an hour for our meals to come out, and there were only 5 of us, and whilst it was a Sunday morning and there were other guests, it wasn't packed and mega busy.Once we got our food though, it was all very nice and enjoyable, although I'm not sure how they pass deep fried mash potato as a hash brown? All in all a little disappointing because of the wait but also a little on the higher priced side too.
This is a family owned restaurant, serving Italian food. Just off the Calder highway, Literally in front of the railway station, which is entertaining for the kids. There is a specials board, and good sized kids menu that is NOT all just fried food. Good portions, but you do need an entree. We had a shared entree, then individual mains and dessert. Coffee was horrible, it was burnt so bad that two teaspoons of sugar could not mask the taste, I could not drink it. Thank goodness I had a little wine left in my glass.Good wine selection from Italy and local. Pricing, sorry to say this, but it was too high for a restaurant which is so far out of the city, and so would not have the high rental/rates/overheads that a city restaurant would have. Casual restaurant without table clothes, in the country. The price should reflect this. Overall this is a good little place to eat at, good authentic food, just watch that budget.
The weather was freezing, but the welcome warm and service excellent. We came in for a warming drink and snack, and were pleasantly surprised at the excellent coffee, hot chocolate and yummy edibles.
