The Pancake Underground - Strasburg

Not only offering vegan breakfast, which is pretty hard to come across in this area, but DELICIOUS vegan breakfast that was reasonably priced and portioned. So yummy! Staff was extremely friendly and helpful; welcoming and cozy place.

Delicious. I love that these pancakes are the kind with the taste of baking soda! Home cooked memories for sure : got the local Doc Kom Bucha too and it was a soft buch with apple pie flavors. We can't wait to have an excuse to go back.

Great food at very reasonable prices! A definite improvement over Christina's, which used to occupy the same space a couple of years ago. Christina's, also a farm to table operation, had higher prices with meager portions. The Pancake Underground co-owner we briefly spoke with and all the staff were excellent and very friendly. I really loved the selection of menu items! Biscuits and gravy, a potato bowl, chicken and waffles, and more. So good! If I was to ding them for anything, it would be that the interior decor was a bit of head scratcher with random artwork and such on the walls. Pancake Underground also had a bit of a Portland, Oregon feel to it, which I did not care for. The owners spent some time in Portland before Portland disintegrated into a third world county with jaw-dropping homeless encampments, rampant drug use, gang related shootings, trash in the open, graffiti on everything, and an epidemic of car thefts. I live an hour from Portland and it's decay is slowly bleeding into my town. Most people I know avoid going to downtown Portland now. My family has considered moving out of state for a better, safer life. So, anything that reminds me of Portland just leaves a bad taste in my mouth at the moment....unlike Pancake Underground's biscuits and gravy. Yum!

The food here is excellent, and I really appreciate the chalkboard that showcases where the ingredients come from. The chicken and waffles served are quite generous in portion size. The atmosphere has a charming small-town vibe. I believe this place is definitely worth a visit at least once. They offer fresh ingredients sourced from local suppliers (listed in the photos).

I was eager to write a review for this restaurant since it has such high ratings and seems lively and welcoming. We visited this past Sunday for breakfast and were asked if we had a reservation (we didn’t, as we didn’t even consider reserving for breakfast). Unfortunately, they were fully booked. The hostess informed us that they were shutting down permanently, which we initially misinterpreted as them being closed for the remainder of the holiday weekend. Sadly, they are closing for good. We were disappointed not to have the chance to try The Pancake Underground, but that’s just how it goes sometimes.
