Dinners By Dawn - Story City

We started with the Queso Cheese Bacon Fries as an appetizer. While it’s a simple dish, everything was executed perfectly: the fries were hot and crispy on the outside while tender on the inside, the cheese was rich and creamy with a hint of spice, and the bacon was delightfully crispy! For the main course, I ordered the Southwest Brisket Sandwich. True to barbecue style, it was a bit messy but the explosion of flavors was incredible—sweet, slightly spicy, smoky, and full of zest. The sandwich featured three types of sauce (BBQ, chipotle mayo, and house slaw), which could have made it soggy, but the pretzel rolls they used held up beautifully and added a wonderful texture. My wife opted for the Bourbon Chicken, and let me tell you, the chicken was incredibly moist, the skin perfectly crisp, and the bourbon sauce was absolutely delicious. We both saved room to share a small portion of their Bistro Mac and Cheese, which was delightful with a creamy cheese sauce and perfectly cooked noodles (so many places overcook their mac and cheese, but this was just right). Finally, based on our amazing waiter’s recommendation, we decided to try their house-made Carrot Cake for dessert. It was moist, and the cream cheese frosting was simply divine! If you haven’t dined at this restaurant yet, you’re truly missing out. P.S. Their hours differ slightly from most restaurants, so be sure to check before heading over!

Absolutely fantastic service! Story City is conveniently located halfway between Rochester, MN, and Council Bluffs, IA, making it a perfect meeting spot for my family to exchange visitors. The staff were exceptional, taking extra time to chat with us and make us feel welcome. The food was delicious! As a vegetarian, I loved the Zen salad, while my teenage son (who isn’t a vegetarian, of course) enjoyed the OMG Burger. We both left very satisfied!

DbD has been one of my favorite spots for the past three years. Both lunch and dinner are expertly prepared, with creative and delicious options. The staff is friendly and genuinely eager to please. I highly recommend their Roast Beef Open Nights, as well as Prime Rib nights and their Valentine's dinner. I'm so glad to have such a wonderful place in Story City!

My father and I had lunch in this wonderful restaurant for the first time today. We were impressed by the menu. The smoked salmon salad I had was delicious! Dad loved the special crab maize cat. The Hornbrot was so good. The service was friendly and attentive. We come to Story City once a week and will definitely be over again. What a jewel!

Our first visit was this morning to the breakfast buffet...scrumptious! ! White chocolate waffles!! Rolls with frosting so good I could eat it by the tub!!!
