Contribuiți la feedbackLocavore has some of the best gnocchi I have eaten in the Adelaide Hills. The light pillows melted away in my mouth. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. As well as amazing gnocchi their extensive wine selection has something for everyone's palate.
Oh dear! New owners and I've visited three times to try to be fair and let them ease in. First two visits not overwhelming. But - today everything seemed parsimonious. House sauvignon blanc up to its usual good standard but accompanied by thin tomato soup with 1 piece of bread. The rhubarb and pear crumble was really good but the very small scoop of thick cream served separately inadequate. The flat white coffee was indescribable - and undrinkable. Staff (owner?) very polite and service quick. Tables now bare cafe style. Weekly visits definitely ending - despite wonderful location and outlook it is farewell Locavore!
Beautiful seasonal food, super fun and personalised experience. Excellent relaxed and continual service. These guys were the most fun and skilful vino navigators I think I've experienced. They know the wine makers, the location of the vineyards, and they probably know the altitude of each bottle of wine. Tip. Tell them how much you want to eat and drink,,,, and let them order for you. There's no way I could have picked a better journey of wine from the adelaide hills. They were excellent. If you want to eat some beautiful food and be taken on a virtual wine tour of the adelaide hills... then this is you place. I eat out 3 times a week,,,,, this is the best experience in 12 months!
I dined at Locavore on a Saturday night as part of a party of four. Before dining in this restaurant I was very excited to be dining in an establishment that prides itself on using local produce only, sourced within 100 miles. I was hoping for delicious food and wine as well as amazing service. Upon arrival, we were very warmly welcomed by the restaurant sommelier who invited us to the bar, as we were early to our reservation. Service was outstanding and full of humour, fun and attention to detail. We were recommended wines and cocktails to suit our meals as well as taken on a flight of the exclusive Adelaide Hills wines that his restaurant prides itself on. We ordered chorizo sliders with slaw and pate for entree. The sliders were simple but packed with flavour. The gluten free buns were slightly tough and slightly over toasted. The chorizo was delicious, full of flavour and seasoned well. The pate was beautifully creamy, light, full of flavour and again seasoned very well. The combination of the accompanying 'soup' and balsamic vinegar with the pate on perfectly toasted bread crisps was heavenly on the palate with a perfect balance of flavours. Main consisted of two Angus sirloins, pork belly and slow cooked lamb shoulder. The steaks were both ordered medium rare and came out pretty close to correct temperature, just slightly over. The jus was complex, the grilled shallot added a beautiful sweetness to the dish. Also on the plate were 'jenga' chips. They were cooked well but lacked seasoning. Overall the steak was above average as a main course. The pork belly was served with roasted apple and a pork reduction. This dish was exquisite, near perfect. The pork belly was tender, full of flavour, juicy and simply amazing. The additions of the sauce which was delicate, and the roasted apple perfectly balanced out the fats of the pork belly and brought together the entire dish. This was by far the best main that was ordered. The final main was the slow roasted lamb shoulder, served with baby potatoes, roasted vegetable stack (eggplant, pumpkin, zucchini and red capsicum) and a Pinot jus. This was my dish of the evening. Upon reading the menu description I was salivating. It sounded delicious and I couldn't wait to eat it. Unfortunately, this dish was such a disappointment with very few positives. The roasted vegetable stack were all undercooked and had no seasoning whatsoever. The baby potatoes were simply boiled potatoes, no salt, not herbs - very plain. The small amount of lamb that was served was mainly fat, it was overlooked and dry. Finally the Pinot jus was not delivered. The sauce on the plate was the pan juices from the roasting of the lamb. There was not a single drop of Pinot in the sauce at all. The entire dish lacked seasoning, flavour and general wow factor that the dish had the potential of being. Dessert was a different story. We ordered lemon myrtle sorbet, affogato and 2 lavender creme brûlée. The sorbet was light, full of flavour and very much a palate cleanser. A delightful dairy free option for lactose intolerant diners. The affogato had beautiful creamy ice cream, smooth liquor and exquisite espresso. The wow factor of dessert course was the lavender creme brûlée. It was served with double cream, two lemon myrtle biscuits and a fresh strawberry. The biscuits were short, crumbly, not too sweet and beautiful cooked. The double cream was not sweet at all and balanced out the sweetness of the brûlée' sugar top excellently. The brûlée itself had the perfect amount of lavender flavour. It was creamy, soft, light and basically a text book brûlée base. The burnt sugar top was perfectly torched, which added a lovely caramel flavour to contribute to the dish. This dish was perfection. Overall, it was an enjoyable night. We had great service, friendly and helpful staff and we all had fun. The main did let down my night personally, however my other guests thoroughly enjoyed all 3 courses. The dessert was the redemption for me. It turned my entire evening around and ensured I would return to the restaurant again. The only other negative of the night was the wait time between courses but with the right company and delicious food it can be forgiven. I would recommend people give this restaurant a try because some of the food we had was exquisite and the service was great for a family restaurant. Pricing is average, ranging from $7 to $36. I hope this review was helpful to both potential clients and the restaurant itself.
