Captain D's - Stephenville

This past Sunday, July 30th, my friend and I decided to visit one of our favorite restaurants, but unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. The food quality was unacceptable, and here’s what happened. First, my friend ordered the supreme sampler with coleslaw and fries. When his plate arrived, he could barely find the coleslaw—it was hidden under a small serving of green beans, which he hadn’t even ordered. As for the fries, they were cold—actually cold, not just lukewarm. To make matters worse, the fried fish and chicken were overly cooked. I ordered the whitefish and shrimp combo with green beans and broccoli, but everything was cold except for the fish, which was oddly half-fried and half-raw. To top it all off, I ended up feeling unwell afterward, likely due to food poisoning. I suspect it was caused by something expired or perhaps even moldy. I’d also ordered a shrimp skewer combo to go for my wife, which included shrimp skewers, a loaded baked potato, and broccoli, since it’s her favorite. However, it turned out to be a poor choice. There was only one skewer with five shrimp, and the loaded potato contained just a pat of butter—no bacon, cheese, or sour cream, just the basic toppings you'd expect to be included. The worst part came when my wife opened her meal at work and discovered mold on the broccoli! That’s absolutely unacceptable. I understand that the food industry can have off days, and I've worked in it for years, so I know it happens. However, the decline in quality from what we used to enjoy at this restaurant is disheartening. The friendly ladies who used to work there and made everything so great seem to be gone, and the two guys who served us didn’t seem to care much. As for the overall cleanliness, the silverware by the drink dispensers was dirty and had food residue on it. There were three other groups of customers there, yet tables remained unclean and the floors were in poor condition. On the bright side, they did have a variety of hot sauces available, which was the only saving grace that allowed us to get some of the food down. Overall, this visit was extremely disappointing, and we hope to see improvements in the future.

The tables and countertops were dirty, and the staff seemed disinterested, as if they would rather be somewhere else. To make matters worse, the ketchup pump dispensed cocktail sauce, while the cocktail sauce was actually ketchup. The food was decent, but it was overpriced. Food rating: 3/5.

When our order finally arrived at the window, we were assured that there would be plenty of tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, ketchup, napkins, and utensils in the bag. However, when we got back to our hotel room, we found only a single packet of ketchup. There was no spoon for the coleslaw! To make matters worse, the shrimp was dry and burnt, and the few fries we received were hard and cold—even with the lone packet of ketchup. The hushpuppies were old and also dry. I had to wash it all down with a flat Pepsi that was barely cold, as the little ice I had was already melted. The fish was okay, although it desperately needed tartar sauce. We tried to contact the manager, but we were told that no one was available. Overall, what a waste of $35.00!

They were obviously understaffed, the lady at the counter complained that she'd been there almost 12 hours. They were out of many items. Chicken being one of them. The oysters were horrible ?. This is our worst visit to this location. The employees tried their best to make the best of what they had, but it still wasn't a pleasant trip for us.

My mom and I went there may 5th 2023 and the manager didn't know what went on my platter and a new guy just started but he was sweet and so the shrimp was cooked too long okra wasn't done enough they didn't know where the crab was so I had to substitute. My mom got 1 fish like 4 shrimp. It was not good and I usually love this place.Food: 1/5
