Ches's Fish and Chips - St. John's

Because the quality of food has definitely gone down the hill. We were not greeted by anyone when we arrived, we accepted our seats (AFTER SETTING FOR ABOUT 10 MINS) we were told that we had to order and pay for our food before we could sit. as asked...to see the menu, we were told that there is no one, and we had to order what was on the screen that the girl pointed to. After ordering and paying for our food we took seats again, there were no utensils or hammocks when eating on the onion rings were so white that they were still a bit raw, the dough on the fish was fat soaked and the fries were rather flashy.

I tried her fish, chicken strips, hamburgers and pommes on my different trips to this Ches site. Always great tasting and cheap. I ate in the restaurant and had takeout. My only complaint is that they use plastic containers for their recording and... ..then, when I took off, it was a little soggy from the condensation in the plastic container. So if you prefer crispy food (like me) I would recommend to eat in the restaurant...and bonus in the do that because the staff are friendly!

I visited this place every time I visited St. Johns and the fish and chips are always amazing. During my last visit, although it appeared, the team was short staff, as there were only 3 people who worked the dining room and cash. They did the...best they could, but as a result the service was somewhat slow and various customers had to wait for cutlery etc. while her food was at the table. I hope it was just an isolated incident, but I will definitely come back.

We were recommended to go to this restaurant by a lady in the hospital, she said the best fish and chips in St Johns is in Ches 's, make sure you ask for fish chips, dressing and Gravy. The fish and chips and the engraving were okay. The dressing was very disappointing, it was actually sage and onion stuff that we put on chicken. (Love chicken and filling). But stuff does not belong to fish and chips!!! The dough was very thick and not cooked enough. The staff was brilliant, loved our accents and could not do enough to make sure our visit was pleasant.

Good atmosphere. Lightly battered cod fish and chips. Same batter on onion rings.Been around in city since 1951. Staff informs of specials and assists you in choosing your meal.
