Contribuiți la feedbackThis restaurant has the best sushi. It is a small business, but provides a relaxing environment. They have many different options, as well some excellent gluten free options. The server we had was extremely accommodating.
4/4 stars for the sushi, excellent selection! Only downside was that half our group was finished eating before the other half received their sushi ????
This is my third visit to ASA sushi. I wanted to give them another chance upon recommendation of specific dishes/rolls from a friend. Third time did not disappoint. I came here early on a Wednesday evening and dined solo for part of my meal until a friend joined me later.Service from the gentleman this time was great, and prompt. I love the little two-seaters on the ground level, and there is room for bigger parties upstairs. It's really welcoming when you are alone looking for a bite to eat. Miso soup was delicious and a deeper flavour than other sushi joints in town. The avo-asparagus-yam roll was so flavourful. Crunch roll REALLY good. There was only one not-so-good aspect, but I may be misinformed on this: the sushi rice is looser than other local spots, and it is really hard to pick up the rolls without them unraveling/falling apart in your chopsticks. I never have this happen anywhere else. However, I did read that one of the chefs is trained in the art of sushi rice making and sushi rolling (forgive me, I do not know the correct term), so it could be that I have been consuming what I THINK is proper sushi, but it is not. Anyhow, it does not matter because the flavour is there.Bottom line is that it's a nice spot, staff are friendly & it is cheaper than other spots. I think the lack of all-you-can-eat makes it classy and like the owners said, if they did that, they would have to charge much more due to the cost of high-quality fish and ingredients. Also, they are open late on Friday & Saturday and REALLY looking forward to getting some sushi after a night out on George St!!!Keep up the great work. I'll be back!
Having lived in Vancouver I have been eating sushi for over 30 years and when prepared by the right chef is my favourite food. Great sushi restaurants in St. John'sbut I think it's been raised a notch by ASA, very authentic but still providing lots of fusion options in casual surroundings, fabulous Japanese born sushi chef. Had variety ranging from the best spring rolls ever, a variety of hand rolls, maki. etc. but the Star was the Lobster artfully prepared by chef Koto a whole lobster served on platter prepared different ways including lobster tail sashimi. I thought I was in Tokyo
I am not a sushi lover, I hated it. A friend convinced me to eat the Tempura Bacon, Chicken Teriyaki roll and Yam Tempura Roll with a bit of spicy mayo. Now I am literally eating here as one of my favorite places out. It's fantastic. The presentation is that of a high end restaurant, at the cost of a casual dinner out (you'd prob pay as much or more at Jungle Jims). The attention to detail and taste are unbeatable and they will even accommodate allergies, diet habits, Gluten intolerance, Sugar free meals etc. And after all that, the Service is even freaking better. They treat you like family, they all know the menu inside and out and are friendly and helpful.LOVE THIS PLACE RECOMMEND
