The Fish Shak - Southport

Excellent fish and chips. Good fresh oysters. Cooking time can be a bit long, but there are lots of nice tables inside and out, to wait at. Good fresh oysters. Great craft beer on tap. And its right beside the huge park for the kids.

Just perfect!!! Atmosphere the food and the price, can't beat it...highly recommended in the heart of Southport

Cod and chips, whiting and chips. All good, but let down by a thick hard crumbing on both fish. Cod was nice and thick and tasted lovely, sadly the lovely whiting was lost in the breadcrumbs which were way too hard. Chips hot and lovely.

We visited the Broadwaters Parklands and wasn't planning on staying for dinner but when my husband saw the sign for $1 oysters between 3-5 pm we couldn't help but sit a while... and ordered more than we expected to! The prawn saginaki was to die for, and I was still sorta dying afterwards as it was rather oily (those who are prone to heartburn beware). But it was so worth it as the prawns were cooked to perfection and the combination of the feta cheese and cherry tomatoes in the sauce was irresistible. There wasn't enough brioche for me to finish dipping! My husband had the lobster roll and he said it was the best he's ever had. Instead of getting a kids meal for my 4 year old, we just got a croissant sandwich at the snack counter outside (also fish shak) and brought it in with us. The highlight however was the $1 oysters. Fresh and bang for your buck. We've already made plans to come back before our trip here is done.

We haven't been here since this venue was Cafe Rockpool, so it was a delight to visit for lunch last week on a glorious Gold Coast winter day that would be Spring or Summer somewhere else. After a walk down the jetty and the parklands, time to choose something to eat - and the debates began!Chowder?Prawn saganaki?Classic fish and chips? Battered or grilled? Or just the grilled salmon, perhaps?Should we ask for extra chips to share? Will we need extra salads too?As it turned out, we only ordered 1 extra chips (not 3 like we thought) but it was more than enough - the meals than came with chips had loads!The chowder was incredibly filling, and delicious. The diner who chose that felt like a king (he usually chooses mussels, ribs or something along that line). The saganaki diners were very impressed. The prawn shells were very hot (temperature), so handling them was a little awkward, but the meal but was 'very yummy' if a little too oily (that may depend on the prawns themselves, perhaps). Grilled salmon was a dream, with a little salad. Calamari likewise. Fish and chips is always yum-o here. I'd spoken with Justin about my allergies when I made the booking, and we decided that it probably would be safer this time to bring my own. Kamahl and team couldn't have been nicer about reheating my soup. Knowing that it's the same team, I think in future I could probably enjoy some chips. Their attention to individual dietary needs is wonderful, provided they're advised in advance. After lunch the group enjoyed an ice cream and coffee from the ice cream bar out front. Again, yum!
