I remember when this place was just a small hole-in-the-wall, but it has now transformed into a modern sports restaurant. The atmosphere is beautiful, and there are vegan options that go beyond the standard grilled vegetable sandwich. I tried both the tuna sandwich and the chickpea sandwich. The tuna sandwich aimed to be a grilled tuna with melted cheese, but it fell short. The roggenbrot was nicely grilled and a bit oily, while the chickpea "tuna" had a nice texture, but it completely lacked flavor. The cheese, made from Daiya, was mixed in rather than melted, which didn't help. Instead of tasting like tuna, it mostly tasted like chickpeas. I suspect the cooks might not know to add seaweed powder for extra flavor. The meal came with a bag of nostalgic Better Made potato chips instead of fries. While the bar area wasn't too busy, I found myself having to hunt down the server for every little request.
The restaurant offers a variety of vegan options. The tent sticks and Impossible Burger are fantastic! I hope they expand their vegan menu even further in the future.
I visited this restaurant with my daughter, who is vegetarian, while I follow a vegan diet. We both decided to order nachos—mine were loaded with vegan toppings, while she opted for traditional nachos with just dairy cheese. I really enjoyed mine; it had plenty of toppings, though I could have used a few more chips. Unfortunately, my daughter's plate had an overwhelming amount of chips but very little cheese on top, which was disappointing, especially since they had initially served us a meat-filled plate by mistake.
I remember visiting this place when it used to be a tiny dive bar. It's now been completely transformed into a modern sports bar, which is a great change. I was pleased to see a wider range of vegan options beyond the typical grilled or steamed veggie sandwich. I decided to try the chickpea tuna sandwich. While it aimed to be a grilled tuna sandwich with melted cheese, it fell a bit short. The rye bread was nicely grilled, though a bit greasy, and the chickpea tuna was well mashed. Unfortunately, it lacked flavor entirely, and the cheese shreds (possibly Daiya) were mixed in rather than melted on top. Instead of tasting like tuna, it simply tasted like chickpeas, which suggests the chefs might not realize that adding seaweed powder could enhance the flavor. The sandwich was served with a bag of Better Made potato chips, which felt nostalgic, but I would have preferred fries. The bar wasn’t busy, yet I found myself having to track down the server for every little request.
