Although I have eaten at Poyntons a lot over the years, I had only tasted their vanilla slice way back in 2013 long before the Snot Blog's real inception. I recall seeing the Sweet By Nature logo throughout their cake cabinet, but in comparing the SBN slice to the Poynton's one I'm not so sure they are they same.I'm sure that the vanilla slice was yesterdays to start off with...I mean who would deliver fresh cakes on a Sunday? Having said that; there were some real positives here with a whipped, rich vanilla infused cream filling. Pastry would have been crisp and flaky yesterday with a lovely golden baked colour and flavour but today just not the right texture. Topped with a sweet vanilla icing and accompanied by passionfruit and raspberry coulis and an extra dollop of whipped cream I had to be rolled out!
Good for bigger groups. Service was very good and the food was above par. Excellent view of the river if you are near the windows. Can get noisy.
Nice place to check out whilst on a leisurely Saturday or Sunday walk along the river. I really enjoyed wondering through the large nursery but I came primarily for lemon tart which was recommended and was delicious. Also had the sweet potato waffles which was tasty and came together well with a serve of salmon and poached egg.
Poyntons is s cafe inside a nursery along the Maribyrnong river. It is a lovely cafe surrounded by the beautiful flowers in the nursery. We came here for brunch on Easter Sunday, although it was quite busy, there are plenty of seatings available in the cafe. The cafe is brightly lit, clean and have many nice pot plants used as decoration within the cafe. We ordered coffee skinny and soy latte), Benny egg Benedict) and Sabih Israel eggs). The coffee was alright but the food was fresh and delicious. The Benny comes with chunky ham, bacon crumbs and house made tomato relish which go well together. The eggs are perfectly poached too. The other dish Sabih was something different, more of a vegetarian dish but it was so big portion that really fill you up. We were planning to have dessert initially but will have to save it for next time.
