Gunter's - South San Francisco

I’ve driven y this place for years. Always had an edge to go in but never did. Tonight we finally stopped in an found out what we’ve been missing. I had the fried chicken, it came with a choice of soup or salad. I chose the soup because they had clam chowder. It wasn’t just a cup but a whole bowl, nice rich and creamy with big chunks of clams. The meal was so big I couldn’t finish it all. I almost always finish my meals. It was as good as big. I won’t be passing this place much more.

Gunter's has a huge variety of menu options. It's a great choice when there are multiple people in your party and your can't agree on one cuisine- Gunter's has something for everyone! I've been here many times, the food is always good and the portions plentiful. Service can be hit or miss. I went for lunch on July 12th with 2 friends. We had the chicken strips, breakfast burrito and rueben sandwich. We all enjoyed our food and had leftovers. On this visit, the service was terrible. It took over 10 minutes for someone to approach us, she gave us water and said our waitress would come soon and take our orders. About 5 minutes later the same person came and said she is helping the waitress and she took our orders. The wait for our meal was not excessive. The actual waitress brought our food, put it in front of us and that was the last service we received. We wanted more water and were unable to get her attention. She was spending her time with a table of women near the door that appeared to be her friends. She seemed to be doing her best not to make eye contact with any customers. We couldn't get more water and when we needed take out containers we ended up asking the man who was clearing the tables. Our waitress gave a friendly goodbye to the women she had been conversing with and went out the door-never checking to see what the status of her customers was. After waiting 10 minutes and not receiving our bill, we just went to the counter to pay. Another couple of minutes until anyone noticed us there. In summary, you will enjoy your meal but not the service.

First and last time. The staff was really nice, hence the three stars, but the coffee was terrible with individual cheap creamer and food was just edible. Not a lot of flavor and my huevos rancheros were covered with too much cheese.

As soon as you enter you are greeted by the friendly staff with a down to earth home feeling, great American Mexican food selections (breakfast, lunch and dinner) deliciously prepare with big portions, also ask the waitress what are the daily specials, you will be surprise with some great selections, this is the perfect place for those of you that enjoy good hamburger, the 1/2 LB burger is cook to perfection (tender, moist and juicy), great place cozy atmosphere for the family dining with reasonable price
