Contribuiți la feedbackI visited this restaurant for their 2-course Sunday lunch and I must say, the service was great and the food was excellent. I ordered the roast beef and it was cooked perfectly, melting in my mouth. The vegetables and cauliflower cheese were fantastic and the gravy had a delicious meaty flavor. The Yorkshire pudding was large and the perfect consistency. For dessert, we had sticky toffee pudding which was also a generous portion and tasted delicious. We left feeling completely full and satisfied. We will definitely be returning.
After finishing our main courses, we waited a long time for the plates to be cleared, as various staff members walked past our table without acknowledging the dirty dishes. By the time our plates were finally cleared, we decided to skip dessert and grab something on the way home instead. It's a shame that the restaurant's excellent food was overshadowed by the subpar service, which ultimately led us to not order more drinks or desserts and consider not returning in the future.
The food was mediocre and disappointing. The turkey and pheasant dishes we ordered were not what we expected, as the meat was pulled and fried to a crisp. The service was also lacking, with the young wait staff being pleasant, but the full-time managers being indifferent and uninterested. The restaurant played loud pop music, which was odd for a country inn, and they refused to put the dining bill on the room bill. Breakfast was also a letdown, with a limited continental offering and a subpar cooked breakfast. The manager's response to our concerns about the flies was dismissive and unapologetic. Despite the convenient location and the nicely decorated building, we felt that we overpaid for our stay and were disappointed by the overall experience. If you have low expectations and are okay with a basic hostel-like experience, you may not be as disappointed. It's a shame, as this place has the potential to be much better.
Dropped in for lunch as our previous visits had been wonderful. Not this time however. Upon entry we were told by a member of staff that there was no room due to staff being off sick, which is fine, It happens and you go somewhere else, not an issue. However when informing customers its best not to be condescending, snooty and look down your nose at them. For what?, having the audacity to fancy some lunch?. And to whatever pithy response the management dole out via this review, save it. We will not be back thanks, we are clearly not the type of people your staff want.
We were on our way to Dalton In Furness as we found it impossible to find anywhere safe to park in Kirby Lonsdale, we happened to see the Plough and pulled in on the off chance we could have a light lunch. On our entering we were made to feel very welcome and shown to a table. We did not order any alcoholic drinks as we were driving. I asked for a pot of tea and my wife had fresh orange,we both ordered sandwiches, I had the pulled pork and my wife had smoked salmon on ciabatta with a side order of chips. The drinks and food were fresh and tasty and the chips were exceptional. Should we be in the area again we would have no hesitation in visiting. PS we also purchased a hand crafted walking stick.
