The Barn Cafe - South Lakeland

Came here today for lunch. It was really busy for such a small place and I felt quite sorry for the poor waitress who was negotiating balancing full trays, while some couple allowed their young sons to continue to run repeatedly up and down the staircase for absolutely no reason. The staff had an angel’s patience with what was essentially completely unacceptable behaviour. Our lunch was lovely and great value for money. We ordered Welsh Rarebit and soup, which was a delight on a miserable day like today. Again well done to the staff to remain pleasant and cheerful despite some people just utterly failing to manage their children.

The garden adjacent to the cafe is my favourite place to sit and enjoy tasty, freshly made food in peaceful surroundings, with a great view of Swarthmoor Hall. You can either eat in the cafe or the garden, the food is very good even if you only want coffee cake.

I can’t believe we haven’t been here more it has shot up to one of our favourite local places. Lunch (salad and pate) was delicious and good value followed by excellent tea and cake. Super service and glorious sitting outside in the sunshine. Really impressed we will be back. Lots.

We visited the Barn cafe for the first time this year....a mistake on our part! This place uses great ingredients which results in a quality end product. Great service and chat from the staff helps the bonhomie. My only gripe is it needs to get a quality coffee machine...filtered coffee just doesn’t cut it these days.
