Risin' Smoke Barbecue - South Hill

This cozy little spot may be easy to overlook, but it offers fantastic service and delicious food! Everything is homemade! The brisket is tasty, though a bit greasy. The mac and cheese is just right, and the potato salad is good as well. The restrooms are clean, which is always a plus. Don't miss out on the dessert, as it's also made in-house! There are only a few tables inside, but there’s an old-fashioned lunch counter and a couple of outdoor tables available if the weather is nice. Located in an old gas station, the place is filled with nostalgic memorabilia. I really enjoy stopping here whenever I'm traveling through the area! It’s just a short distance off I-85 and so much better than fast food.

The BBQ was quite good, and the hush puppies were the best I've ever tasted. The atmosphere was fantastic, making it feel like you were dining at a friend's home. The desserts looked incredible, but I managed to hold back and didn’t indulge in any.

This was the best BBQ I’ve had in years! Definitely worth the stop.

Fire really good BBQ. This is one of those small town hidden gem BBQ establishments you visit, you smell the wood in the smoker out back rolling in the parking lot Pro tip: if you're debating between this one and the one down the road a quarter of a mile....pick this one. Friend got food poisoning at Wilsons.
