I ordered a steak and got pork and an argument about the type of meat. They hadn't ordered any pork so despite the visible evidence it couldn't be. Our last meal there was burnt everything was burnt black! I hadn't made a big deal about the previous issue. I guess they made it abundantly clear to not come back. Hell will freeze before I go back. Maybe moving to another building will help, but they had a great location and lost it. I would suggest because my experience was shared by many. It is so sad because more restaurants are needed in South Hero.
What an amazing meal! Although we've enjoyed Cook Sisters in the past we hadn't been back since Covid. We got our food to go and were blown away everything was exceptional. The steak was cooked to perfection and we thought the ribs were the best we've had in VT. The corn, potatoes, homemade salad dressing, and dessert were all delicious the entire meal was delicious! Please don't bother with the Blue Paddle; the most talented chef in the Islands is over here.
Cook sisters is no longer open. it has been replaced by victorias cafe, thai american food.
Great food, cozy atmosphere, friendly staff! We’ll definitely be back!
The menu is compact, but that didn’t bother us; we both found several dishes that sounded enticing. I was a bit disappointed that they were out of crab cakes and not serving the sweet pea and basil soup that had been advertised as a weekend special on Facebook. However, we decided to share the picnic plate as an appetizer instead, which turned out to be a delightful choice. It featured homemade pickled vegetables (the brine was especially tasty), wonderful homemade country pâté, cheese, cherries, olives, and plenty of bread. We savored every bite. For our main courses, I chose the scallops Pernod, which were perfectly cooked and beautifully sweet. The spinach and farro that accompanied the dish were simple but complemented it nicely. My husband ordered the seared tuna, cooked to a beautiful rare in the center, and topped with a wasabi sauce that truly elevated the dish. For dessert, we shared a slice of carrot cake that looked and tasted incredibly homemade (I saw Patty cutting it from a cake carrier). It was hands down the best carrot cake I've had in a long time—moist, just sweet enough, and dangerously tempting. I found myself wishing we each had our own slice. Everything we enjoyed was crafted with care and affection, making the dining experience feel intimate and cozy, as if we were having a lovely meal at a friend’s house. The restaurant is a family affair with a three-person team: Patty managing the front of house, one sister in the kitchen, and a busboy. Be prepared for a bit of a wait at times, but we didn’t mind at all given the relaxing atmosphere. This ended up being my favorite dinner during our anniversary weekend in Burlington, even more so than our meals at Honey Road and Hen of the Wood. We eagerly look forward to returning.
