I may not be able to review this restaurant objectively because I have a long history with Chequers. Ever since I moved to Ticknall in 1999, I have fond memories of Philip Heath playing the piano and old crooners gathering on Saturdays to sing. It was a magical experience. Chequers has a rich history and continues to be a great pub. I recently walked there from Melbourne as part of a scenic route through Staunton Harold Reservoir and Calke Abbey, which was a wonderful way to experience the Chequers. I would rate the service a 5 out of 5.

What a wonderful place for me to enjoy my very 1st pint during my very 1st visit to England!! If you're looking for an AUTHENTIC pub in the UK with all the trimmings (good beer, spirits, atmosphere, and most importantly good people! then this is the place you must see. I was sad to leave to come back to the states because I loved this place so much Price per person: £10–20
