Mike's Pastry Assembly Row - Somerville

Oh Emm Gee. Loved everything we got except the eclair. The cannolis were spectacular!

I usually receive exceptional customer service but when I came to Mike’s this past weekend, I had a very uncomfortable experience. One of the staff members, blonde girl with orange looking foundation and unflattering blush had smiles and polite formalities to give to every patron but me, coincidentally the only black person in the store. First, she completely ignored that I was next in line. Then when I did step up to the counter, she shot me a very hostile look. No hello, no formality, just an ugly mug. I kindly asked for 2 strawberry cheesecakes to which she replied “Don’t have that”. I then asked about the Oreo cheesecake to which she also said “No more cheesecake”. When I mentioned cannolis instead since she failed to mention what else they didn’t have, she attempted to shrug me off by telling me to read the menu very rudely. I will not be coming back to this location. I felt very out of place and very disgusted by her not so subtle, unwarranted passive aggression towards me. Horrible for business in my opinion.

This is an absolutely fantastic location to a very, very well known pastry shop originally in the north end. The choices of cannolis are endless, literally endless and very very tasty. I mean Nutella cream filled, need I say more? We got what I guess Bostonian Italians call a lobster claw, holy moly! I have never seen a pastry so big!! (That’s what she said). We were going to a New Year’s Eve party, and we bought the very LAST four left in the store. A really amazing treat, a little bit of powdered sugar on top, and this is a piece of heaven. Their carrot cake is to die for, not something you would typically order in an Italian pastry shop, but if you would like carrot cake, this is not to be missed do it. I gave this place four stars because the service can be off. We were there every every day of the four days of our visit. The staff will work there, their attitudes were definitely hit or miss. If you know anything about Boston, this is pretty much par for the course and attitudes leave a little something to be desired. That said, I’ll take a side of attitude with an absolutely banging piece of pastry…..

Great location. All the sweets were super sweet. Not the best boston cream pie, although I had pretty high expectations after reading the reviews. The cannoli though , def try any of the cannolis!

You can enjoy very tasty cannolis of many flavors. They also have pies, cookies, cheesecakes, etc. I haven’t tried all of them, but I assume it should be as good as cannolis.I was lucky to have a street parking spot when I arrived there, but it would be challenging because usually there is no street parking available.I strongly recommend this pastry.
