The White Hart In Somerton

We have had many wonderful dining experiences at White Hard, but our dinner last Friday night was quite disappointing. This may have been due to the restaurant being very busy at our 9 o'clock reservation, but that shouldn’t be an excuse. The service, as usual, was excellent; however, when our food arrived, it was overcooked and tasted as if it had been reheated multiple times. The steak was tough, the chips were cold and had a hard skin, and the fish was tasteless and dry. Since my son treated me to this meal, I didn't want to complain and spoil the evening. I will think twice before making a reservation here again, especially considering we had such high hopes.

I was very disappointed to see that the quality of food at this once-favorite pub has clearly declined.

They didn't have cucumber for the Hendricks gin, nor did they offer alternative potatoes to chips or mustard sauce, despite our request for boiled potatoes. Initially, they mentioned sautéed potatoes, but later stated that they weren't available until 7 PM. We ordered side dishes to come as our main course, but specified them as entrées. We had to ask for plates, and though there were mistakes with the desserts, we tried to overlook them. The ice cream was served in a glass, without a plate, decorative wafer, or napkins, although it was quite nice. The young waiter was polite and tried his best, but everything went awry from the kitchen to our table. I ordered my steak to be cooked very well but had to wait for the jug of the accompanying free sauce. I requested a house salad with roasted seeds, but it consisted only of green leaves covered in a very vinegar-heavy dressing, with a scattering of crushed seeds. The restaurant is beautiful, but it lacks the local charm and warmth it once had. The impersonal, cosmopolitan vibe and lack of attention to detail were disappointing. It felt more like a place you'd find in a city rather than a small town like Somerton. I’m not fond of dishes served in pots with chips in baskets; I prefer seeing well-cooked food presented nicely. While I don't mind paying for good service and food, this experience didn't meet those expectations. The manager seemed to lack personality and warmth, even taking our napkins before we had finished our desserts. At the end of the meal, she asked, "Is everything okay?" When one of our party mentioned that things had felt a bit off, she snapped back, questioning if we were trying to ruin the celebratory mood. It was certainly not the experience we were hoping for.

After I stayed in this boutique pub/hotel on our high-time night, I booked a table for dinner for me and mine. our high-time night and our breakfast were a success, but we had not tasted dinner there, so I was hoping for the same standard. And that was it! the bar staff and waitresses are very friendly and attentive, the eating was delicious great variety on the menu and excellent value for money. the pub/restaurant is cozy, romantic and very land. very enjoyed, thank you! x

The staff were friendly and attentive, the service was very good. There was a good menu with plenty of choice. The food was well presented and well prepared. There was a good choice of excellent deserts which were absolutely delicious. An overall pleasurable experience. We will return.
