Asanka Delight African Cuisine

I ordered the peanut soup with goat and pounded yam, the Egusi soup with goat and fufu, and some kelewele (fried sweet plantains). I really enjoyed the peanut soup with the pounded yam; I believe this type of swallow has a better flavor compared to fufu. The soup wasn’t very peanut-y, but it was quite tasty. It would have been fantastic if it had a little more spice. I also wish there had been more meat in the soup. I chose the Egusi soup because it’s a popular dish, but I would have preferred another lighter soup instead. I have a fondness for spinach dishes from my culture, so my expectations were higher, and this one was just okay. The meat was dry, even though it was cooked in a sauce that should have kept it moist. The chicken in the Jollof rice was EXTREMELY dry—chewing it was difficult, and it even scraped my throat when I swallowed it. It seemed like it might have been old or reheated. The rice itself was also dry, and I didn’t taste much flavor, but I think thicker rice grains tend to dry out faster, so that’s somewhat understandable. On a positive note, the sauce that came with the Jollof rice was really delicious, and I added some to the peanut soup to enhance the flavor. The kelewele were tasty; I genuinely enjoy sweet plantains, so I snacked on those on my way home after picking up my order. I would definitely return to try other items in hopes that they will be fresher next time. This place is worth checking out, but make sure to order something you think you’ll enjoy rather than just what’s popular.
