This was followed by a visit to the excellent winery with Fabio the son of Fernando who is the ultimate owner and founder of the operation. The hand crafted wines were lovely and the theme continued over to having lunch in their restaurant. As anticipated the food is wholesome and rustic and typical of the region unfortunately several of the portions of fish served for main courses were rather too large which made cooking a little inconsistent. Starters and deserts though were both very good. All accompanied by more wines from the winery. This is a really lovely spot and the whole day experience including lunch is well worth doing. If you re lucky enough to experience the river cruise on the Sil river on a good clear day you will come across breathtaking scenery the likes of which you would rarely see. Well worth doing.
On arriving we were asked if we would like to listen to a presentation by Fernando, the owner of the winery, as it was to be in Spanish this could have been a problem as our Spanish was extremely limited. However, thanks to Claudio this was not to be a problem as she translated for us. A very good presentation and tasting it was too. We had also reserved a table for lunch and were so pleased that we did as it was really enjoyable and the food very good and large portions. my husband started with a tomato and mozzarella salad and I had a tempura of king prawns and seaweed. For mains, a beef stew cooked in the winery red wine, and I had lamb chops and salad. Mike had a crumble of berries and we finished with coffee. We also had four glasses of the winery wines and the bill came to €90.75. The waiters were very very helpful and when our waiter knew we were passionate about wines, he gave us one to taste that was not on the wine list. Fernando also walked around having a chat to all the guests.
We were having lunch in the Restaurant, they have a fantastic terrace with a nice atmosphere. But we were also trying different local wines from Algueira, the owner is very friendly and it is capable to explain why those wines are almost uniques in the world
Volveremos seguro
