Thompson Brothers Barbeque Restaurant

I visited this spot today and I will give it 3 1/2 stars. For a platter and drink expect to pay about $20. This restaurant had a name change from Thompson’s Brothers BBQ to Cousin’s Brothers BBQ. I tried the smoked salmon. The salmon was fresh and seasoned well; however, I did not get the taste of a good smoked salmon. In fact it didn’t taste smoked at all. As far as the sides, it wasn’t anything to scream about. The mac cheese was cooked more in a cheese sauce missing that old fashioned macaroni and cheese our grandparents use to make. The collard greens were bland, lacking any kind of flavor. The cornbread put me in the mind of Jiffy cornbread mix. Would I recommend the smoked salmon platter? It’s a no for me. I have tried the ribs in the past when it was the Thompson’s Brothers and I did find them quite tasty. Perhaps I will stick to the actual ribs, briskets, etc. next time.

Damn that’s good BBQ! All meats were perfect, the sides were just okay, but they’re not what the meal is about anyway. Huge portions of meat for the price also, worth a stop and you’ll leave with the meat sweats!

One of my favorite BBQ spots. However, my visit today was less than stellar. I ordered bbq pork plate, side of sausage with mac and baked beans and a fountain beverage. Clerk rang me up and I found a table. I went to get my bev but the fountain beverage machine did not work, and ice was in a small pan on table. Since the fountain wasn’t working, they had a cooler filled with soda, however, there were no diet options. I wish the clerk would have mentioned that when charging me for beverage. My food was ready however, they were out of sausage. Again, I wish the clerk had mentioned this when I ordered. They offered to sub hot links or refund my money but I wanted the beef sausage. Thankfully the pork was still pretty good however, it wasn’t as good as it usually is, the bbq sauces were also a little runny and the sides were good but not as good as they usually are. My impression is that no one is paying attention to details at Thompson brothers and that is not a good sign. I hope they get it together because the bbq is really good.

Came back today. This is a yearly thing as I am only here once a year. Ordered the whole nine platter. OMG, just like I remembered. Delicious smoked meats. Got brisket, a sausage, a huge rib with bologna on a bun with a side of collard greens. I hope to be back next year. This place is great
