Chesters by the River - Skelwith Bridge

They have been here many times, but was disappointed at the visit today to find that the emphasis is now on execution style. All foods served in cartons or polystyrene containers, even drinks, wood cutlery, put your garbage in cans outside when you leave. Used to be a high quality place, although food is still very good. Clear changes that may be caused by lack of personnel, but this is a false emphasis and unfortunately we will not be back.

Oh, my God! I don't know whose idea that was, but it's really not the experience we were used to. I'm all for recycling, etc., but the menu changes, lack of table service, and general appearance and feeling have the feeling as if...now just another self-service café with nothing special to offer. Undoubtedly, it will continue to attract tourists from a distance, but as locals I see no reason to return sadly. Was that a profit-oriented decision? If so, it's a short-sighted one.

So sad to return to one of our favorite places in the area and experience the negative changes. No more delicious salads, made of paper bowls with wood cutlery and food only not where so beautiful near. Many bread and bread options and bread flavours weren't even so nice. I know that changes have to happen, but this is a step too far and has spoiled some of the best properties of the place. The toilets were too grotty never a good sign. Too bad, we won't do this on our walks, it was the main reason why we would take this real walk.

I don't have to say anymore. Just go, you won't regret it. Incredible food, good coffee, nice location, great staff. Go.

We’ve been visiting Chester’s by the River for over 15 years but recent changes, whilst probably well intended, detract from what used to be the best place to eat in the area. Self service, self table clearance, cardboard plates and wooden cutlery are not for...me at an establishment like this. We sat outside with our dog on a rainy day under a leaky plastic roof and the whole experience just added to our damp lunchtime. Where were the glorious trio of salads on the menu, a bland Mac n cheese topped with soggy bang bang cauliflower just disappointed … We need to look elsewhere for our well earned Lakes visit lunch for future trips
