We had dinner in this small restaurant a little sheltered by the tourist bolgia and the wind of the evening. all very good, an appetizer of eggplants, homemade tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms and tasty tortellini. good and with prices below the local average.
I and my boyfriend were at dinner by chance, but it was a nice discovery. I ordered a really but really good cheek, also the dessert and the excellent wine. very nice and welcoming place.
Lovely little trattoria, difficult to get a table, service is slow and relaxed which is what we wanted. No rush to get people out hence the wait for the table. We had bread provided, we drank the local white wine by the ltr which was soft and refreshing, no bitterness. We ordered a carbonara and a bolognese, the carbonara was absolutely packed with flavour, utterly different to what we have in the UK and the bolognese was delicate yet distinct in flavour. Pasta for both dishes tasted incredibly fresh and I wouldn't be surprised if it were home made by the establishment. We also shared a portion of bruschetta which was fresh and mouth wateringly moreish. Reading other reviews i don't understand what people quite expect, the portions are on the small side, which is traditional in Italy where many courses can be ordered but the emphasis is very much on flavour and quality. If you want fast food, don't come here, this place is for relaxing, enjoying the area, the company you are dining with and the food itself. On th prices, we found them to be cheaper than the tourist traps at the front of Sirmione by quite some distance.
Rip Off! Background, all restaurants in the area menu lists go like this, starters, 1st course, 2nd course, mains (with English), this restaurant listed starter, 1st course, 2nd course, meat course, no main course and no English. So we plumped for meat course being a mains. Firstly a bag of bread was put on the table (much smaller than all other restaurants), and after several minutes I had to request the olive oil to go along with it. Every where else this is complementary, but was on our bill at 5 Euro, it was a small dry bag compared to everywhere else and not requested! The glasses of wine we ordered where very small . We both ordered the veal, mine was okay, my partners was 70-80% fat with large veins. The veal was in a thin clear liquid, and nothing to accompany it, it was far from a mains dish. The desert was okay. We left feeling we had hardly ate and this being our 6th evening, it was by far the most expensive for what we received. On our way out there was larger groups and we noticed they had ordered what looked like small charcuterie boards, but they seemed to be accompanied with plates of a selection of hot veg ' and other extras, and the service was a lot more diligent. The service was poor, the food quality was poor, and the amount of food served was very small and the most expensive restaurant. Although I 'm a very confident person, I came away feeling very much a 3rd class citizen, who was not welcome.
