Cantine Gulino - SIRACUSA

I wanted to visit a vineyard and do wine tasting whilst staying in Syracusa and our airbnb host recommend Cantine Pupillo and Cantine Gulino. We opted for Gulino (short taxi ride away from where we were staying in Oritgia) as it looked better valuethan Pupillo. Luca greeted us when we arrived and took us to see the vines and explained about the grapes they grow, harvesting etc. He then showed us where they use to make the wines. Lastly we had a lovely spread of meats, cheese and bread and a taste of 6 of the wines. Our favourites were the Drusa red and the sweet wine. Can't fault it for €20 each. We were the only two there so was a really special experience.

This is not a restaurant as such: it’s a family vineyard. We were staying close by so I emailed them to ask about wine tasting. For €20 each we had 2.5 amazing hours at Cantine Gulino. Our guide Luca spoke excellent English is clearly passionate about the place. We learned about the land, the vines, the history all about good Sicilian wine. We were the only 2 people there but were treated so well that we felt like royalty! We tried 6 wines in all with a gorgeous spread of local dishes. The caponata was to die for! We couldn’t leave without buying a few bottles, especially the white Pretiosa from the Albanello grape, which only Cantine Gulino make (in the whole world apparently! We will absolutely be in touch to get more of their pure wines shipped home...They are very easy on the wallet!

Our wine tasting experience was fantastic! Our guide was very knowledgeable about the winery. We had a lovely walk and visit to the vines, followed by tasting 3 wines with delicious local food pairings. We were also able to buy bottles to take away, 10/10 would recommend!

Our group of 5 had an interesting tour and an excellent meal/wine tasting at this winery very close to Syracuse. The wines are special and we searched them out on our return to the US.
