It'll taste a lot better than a bunch of onions. And of course, reduce the gravy a bit more to make the dish more flavourful. Ngoh Hiang was so good I tapao for mum! Best eaten with a bunch of people so can order more items!
Affordable claypot dishes for sharing! recommend to visit for family/friends gathering. may be crowded during meal times, good to go early. dishes are affordable priced with appropriate portions to fill stomach. adequately flavoured (not too heavy on taste buds), goes well with a bowl of plain rice.
I ordered the sesame oil chicken, sambal okra, sambal squid with okra, sliced fish herbal soup, and homemade ngoh hiang at the restaurant. I was particularly excited for the sesame oil chicken, but it was disappointing as it was lacking in sesame oil flavor. I had tried it before at the Serangoon outlet and it had made a strong impression on me, but the version at the Punggol outlet didn't measure up. The sliced fish herbal soup stood out as the best dish of the meal. The sambal okra was a bit undercooked, while the sambal squid with okra and the homemade ngoh hiang were decent.
I visited the restaurant during off-peak hours, as it is always busy. We ordered 2 claypot dishes and chawanmushi. We tried the seafood and pig liver with kidney. The kidney was soft and fatty, but for those who prefer it well-cooked, it was not fully cooked until it was dried out. We took a seat, placed our order, paid, and waited for our food.
This restaurant serves amazing boneless sesame oil chicken that is hard to find elsewhere. The sambal kang king is also a delicious addition to the menu. The portions are generous and worth the price. I highly recommend trying this place.
