Stayed as b b but had a meal. Ordered off the menu. Asked what was in it. Was advised by the waitress so ordered. Omg she tried to kill me. Had to leave to be sick. Not at any point did she say the meal had pasta. I'm wheat intolerant they did not cater gluten free. It was supposed to be king prawns with toms peppers. Never again. And the breakfast was not good either. Salty bacon. Wheat sausages. No eggs. Cheap beans. We used up vouchers we had for xmas last year. Lovely area. But not best hotel restaurant.
I have tea with interest the previous reviews. We found the experience very good, firstly the staff were really really good, very polite and extremely nice. We shared the ox cheek starter which very good and both went with rump steak, again very good. Room is lovely a and old to sit in, although if u sit near windows they can be draughty (we asked to move which no problem), overall very impressive and absolutely no issues from this reviewer
What a complete and utter mess of a facility. Totally disorganised, inefficient, ineffective and poorly trained staff, food that was nothing better than disgraceful and loud music and flashing lights left unattenuated throughout the meal. Though 'meal ' is a misnomer. The vast majority of food on dozens of plates was uneaten and went to waste because the standard was so poor as to be inedible. Soup nearly cold and served, bizarrely, with thick sticks of raw, unpeeled green apple floating in it. Main courses consisting of vegetables heated, but not cooked and as hard as they left the field, accompanied by disastrously overcooked, barely warm, flavourless meat and thin as water ‘gravy’. The desserts were no more than a further insult to customers and, again, many went uneaten. Then there were the courses that appeared and were later taken away without even being seen by the intended recipients as they had been delayed so long at the bar, trying to buy vastly overpriced drinks. One bottle of red and white wine were available per table, but they were sufficiently grim as to be well matched to the food. From my direct experience, I would suggest that this establishment does not deserve custom and should be avoided at all costs. It would surely be better closed as it exists and put into competent hands whose aim extends beyond cynical exploitation. One of the worst, if not the very worst 'dining ' and 'hospitality ' experiences I have encountered. The claimed four stars would seem to be the product of someone’s fantasy and certainly misrepresent the reality of this farcical shambles. Do yourself a great favour and go elsewere. And I mean anywhere.
We were staying in the hotel with friends and had booked into the resturant for the evening meal. As numbers staying were low we were put in the bar area which wasn 't as charming as the oak panelled 'Oak Room ' in the description. Nevertheless there were plenty of choices on the menu and the food and service were excellent. Would have been nice if they served decaf coffee but otherwise a great dinner.
