We had a great stay of 3 nights in one of the North Abrake self-catering houses. this was large and very warm (important in unst even in juli) with bathroom in the ground floor (only via bath shower) and a well equipped kitchen with fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. bed. everything very clean, but maybe a bit impersonal. Perhaps that is inevitable if there are so many separate units? the outside was unnoticed. hard gras passing for the back garden and the rotating line of clothing has long been collapsed in the shetlandwind. the recipe and bar and restaurant staff in the main complex were unequivocally helpful and friendly and went beyond the duty call to get us a piece of missing kitchen equipment. eating in the restaurant was good, very good in consideration of the geographical location, well cooked with a wide open menu. down. price. below place and lack of competition likely. also the general rather grotty aspekt of the whole place at the arrival. the North Abrake Houses and the main block and the grounds are well maintained, but other parts of this great former RAF base are apparently falling into rack and ruined with holes in the roofs. After you have to run past the decaying phase of the 50's barracks and empty and empty 1980's building, the way to the reception is restless. but persevering if it gets better! would we go back? yes. and recommended it for others visiting the amazing, beautiful, quirky island that is unst.
I did not stay in the resort, but the restaurant is good and is well protected by the locals. the menu is small, but everything is well coked and presented and local products are used wherever possible. the dining room is unpretentious and has no view of the talking, but is bright and airy and has a very pleasant, welcoming ambiente. also the personal is always pleasant and welcoming. the bar is cheap and served beer and gin, which is produced in the brewery via the road. on Tuesdays and free days, fish choppers are served to take or eat (small supplement). these are excellent and very good.
We enjoyed staying there, a 3 bedroom house with a good kitchen, washing machine, beautiful sunroom spacious living room. the meals were good, but the menu was mainly limited for all vegetarians. Wifi cover not strong, but given the geographic location it was managable. we had a great stay of 3 nights.
Great lunch stop. The food was good, the staff were friendly and well organised. There's an interesting small museum covering the site's beginnings as an RAF base.
