The staff knew we had children with us as we asked if they had a children's menu. After asking twice where our food was, it arrived after a one hour wait. We were all very hungry, and am sure the food was ok, but after such a long wait and we really could have eaten anything. Not acceptable. The person in charge said they had been inundated and didn't expect so many people. It was lunchtime, there were no queues and spaces at tables. The party next to us were fed up with waiting too, but what can you do when you've already paid. None of our food had to be cooked, so hard to imagine what was going wrong in the kitchen.
We chose to sit outside as the weather was nice. Breakfast/brunch menu has changed so no scrambled eggs. Had poached eggs on sourdough and that is all there is to say. Two poached eggs in need of more pepper. Went to look on the outside condiment table and there was no pepper. Went inside to ask for pepper and was given a grinder...... Which did t work. By this time my eggs were getting cold so I ate it. My coffee was tepid so drank that in one go. Interestingly nobody came to ask how our meal was. Disappointing I would say. Not up to scratch Marmadukes.
This was for Marmadukes sorting office Booked for 8 people for lunch. Poor service from the start, had to ask to order drinks after 15 minutes, had to ask to order food after 35 minutes. Ordered a dish which had a Caesar dressing in to find it had anchovies in it, which overpowered the whole meal and it really spoilt it. We were not asked during our meal how are food was or if we wished to order more drinks. When I made the waitress aware at the end of the meal that the anchovies were not clear on the menu and had we known we would not have ordered and it overpowered the meal and made it rather unpleasant, she informed us other people who had had the same dish had expressed the same view so why would we not be made aware of this when we ordered this dish? Having spent a lot of money, I left feeling really disappointed with the service and food.
We ordered our best version of a full English as they didn’t sell them on weekdays. Which is strange cos if they have the ingredients they could have just put it through the till but we still managed to get our food. The sweet chilli sausages £5) were very nice. I couldn’t have too much tho as I have a gluten intolerance and they contain wheat : The bacon £5) was honestly the best bacon I have ever had. So crispy and flavourful. The eggs £2 per egg) were also very nice. But price for a cheap ingredient but definitely the best I’ve had. No what I’d call ‘normal’ full English beans Heinz etc) but some similar spicy tomato beans £5) These were beautiful but in my opinion a bit much for breakfast/brunch. I had chips £4) which were perfect. And my girlfriend had sourdough which she said tasted great. Staff were super friendly, and the decoration and building was beautiful. The only downside was the price. We paid £40 for two brunch breakfasts. But if I was a rich man I’d be going there weekly
