Taberna Llorenc Botero - Senija

An ideal place to stop, as we did, in the heart of the small, unhurried, quiet town of Senija. We only had drinks on this occasion – make sure if you want a pint you ask for a ‘pinta’ as the ‘large’ beers forthcoming when ‘cerveza grande’ was ordered weren’t quite that big IMPORTANT when thirsty !! Clean and traditionally stylish Spanish edifice with seating outside on the characterful street or inside depending on the weather. Pleasant, efficient, polite service on offer – though we could have done with a few nuts (to eat, not to add to the company ! .

We stayed in a villa close to the Botero and visited on 4 occasions at different times (lunchtime and evening) and not once was the adjoining restaurant/tapas area open! A pleasant welcome and good selection of drinks but was bemused by the fact that it was the height of Summer and the owners were not serving food! Ended up at the restaurant Senija around the corner where we were served excellent local food.

An archetypal Spanish bar come café come restaurant, seemingly always open whether there are customers frequenting the place or not in this small, quiet yet beautiful town of Senija. The bar/café is found in the ONE town square just along from the prominent church which itself is opposite the small town hall (ayuntamiento). There is a wide range of drinks on offer and all at an eminently reasonable price or indeed CHEAP. Some of the food available is your typical Spanish tapas fare BUT you always get a bit of something with any drinks you buy even if only crisps/nuts. The setting for the bar is quite wonderful with a vivid small town Spain feel to it. Sitting outside the bar on a warm yet sultry afternoon (and most importantly in the shade) is a wonderfully pleasant experience. You can feel Spain soaking into your every pore !! Give it a go ! You could do a lot worse – trust me !
