Delicious food, best customer service I've had, I've had better service here then at any sit down restaurant. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
AMAZING one of my go to places when I got back home is zippys, just for their Korean Chicken. And I crave it all the time, so finding this was home on a plate. The mac salad hit the spot also. And the portion was more than enough. I live an hour away, and I would make that drive in a heart beat. If you are looking for some authentic Hawaiian food, go visit them.
Very rarely will I post a review, but this place was too good not to. Don't waste any time stopping by to try the amazing food over at Ohana Roots! This stop was on my list to try for quite sometime, I was glad to finally get a taste! For me, food trucks can be hit or miss, and Ohana Roots was one of the biggest hits yet! I ordered the Korean fried chicken plate at about 3pm and some furikake fries for my husband and I. I had yet to eat that day so I was very happy to see that the portion size on this plate of chicken was VERY generous! We were both full by the end of our meal and even had a little bit left over. So the value for this plate to the cost was definitely a 5/5. The furikake fries came with a good amount in the box too, but not near the astounding heft that the chicken plate did compared to the cost. Now I'm not hating, it was plenty of fries and food for $4.50 price tag of the side, just in comparison to the value of the chicken plate it seems lackluster. But it is a plate Vs a side item, for that I still think the value of the fries deserves a 5/5. As for the service, I agree with others that this joint has some top notch customer service. I had my pup with me on quite an adventure for her. She was running pretty low on any moisture or fuel, and many places will have something of some sort to offer pets, especially at a food truck stop so I've found due to outdoor locations. Even just small cups of water. I asked if they had anything for dogs, and the owner inquired as to what I meant. I shrugged and just implied really anything, but I didn't expect something at that point, figuring they didn't get many canine visitors. And next thing I know he hands me a boat full of some raw mahi mahi that they had for the day, I even had to ask that he keep the majority of it because I didn't need so much for such a little dog! I was blown away, and my pup definitely loved such a moist, decadent and luxurious treat such as this! (She's fine people, yes you can give a dog raw mahi mahi as long as they don't have sensitive stomach issues). The kindness behind that was amazing. And as others said he also brought my food to me when it was finished, as well as a wet towel to wipe my hands with from the fish, yet another act of kindness completely out of his way! Service: 100/5 Food: It took us about 20 minutes to get home, and the food was still hot by the time we sat down! The chicken was still crunch despite steaming in the box on the drive. The Mac salad is simple but creamy, delicious, and craveable. The rice was, well rice haha. It was cooked well, though. The chicken had good flavor, it was well coated and fried, it was fresh, the pieces were a good size and the seasonings on top melded all the flavors of the plate together perfectly. Korean fried chicken plate 4.9/5 The furikake fries were pretty good, but I'm not entirely sure I'd order them again. To be fair, I'm pretty picky with my fries. I'm sure my husband would order them again and would honestly prefer them to the Mac salad, as it's just not his thing. The combination of fries, furikake and spicy Mayo is most definitely very unique, and it works incredibly well. The flavor is there, it tastes amazing because it mixes well. It's a good fusion is what I mean. I think my issue lies with the fries themself, they remind me very much of McDonald's/whataburger fries. They're thin but not shoestring and had to have been frozen at one point, which in itself is no problem it's just that that type of fry is so common in major fast food that when brought away from the fast food element it's kind of underwhelming. A higher quality thicker fry I thing would elevate it nicely, as well as maybe some more spice and seasoning on the fry themselves--but I do love my spice, I'm not sure if that lies within their niche or not. Food/flavor of the furikake fries I give a 3.8/5 Alright, I know this was lengthy but I do hope this helps people plan on coming and supporting ohana roots! I will most definitely be back for more!
