When i ordered i paid $11 at the truck and when i got around to eating there was no coleslaw. Fish was paper thin and not very good. I don't feel it was worth the $11 or the $10 i should have paid. Live and learn.
Got the mango fish tacos. The fish was cold, there was dry coleslaw out of the bag without any dressing beneath the fish piece. The mango is a mango puree with cucumber... couldnt taste the mango at all.
The Happy Fish serves asian-american fusion and are most known for their tacos. They also offer fish chips, poutines and other Korean/Japanese and american inspired foods. We started with good old fashioned deep fried pickles which were excellent. I decided to try the signature taco platter that came with a fish taco topped with mango salsa, a shrimp taco topped with the same mango salsa and a beef taco topped with kimchi. I do wish the seafood tacos had different toppings as they both ended up tasting the same...like mango salsa. Thankfully that mango salsa was pretty good! The beef taco was quite good with the kimchi complementing the flavour nicely. I would probably try The Happy Fish again as the food wasn't bad and the service was friendly. There are definitely a few other things on the menu I would like to give a go.
When my family and I visited Westerner Days in Red Deer last month, we enjoyed some of the fair food during our visit. One food truck that we tried was Calgary’s Happy Fish Food Truck. They apparently have been serving Fish and Chips since 2007 and originated the mango fish taco. The Mango Fish Taco was made with grilled soft corn tortillas loaded with fresh coleslaw, craft beer battered fish, house made mango sauce and mango salsa. The dish was priced at $12 for 3 pieces. I thought the fish pieces were generous in size. The batter on the outside was nicely crispy and the fish was somewhat tender and flaky. The mango flavour wasn’t too obvious too me; it tasted more like a mango and something else mixed together.
Had the bulgogi and kimchi pulled pork tacos....the bulgogi meat looked like roast beef from subway the pulled pork must mushy and tasted of fat. Then they put some runny white sauce on it that turned the tortilla to mush. Probably the most unpleasant things I have eaten in a long time.
