Hibino Cafe Agt - Sapporo

I tried the rice sandwiches at this restaurant, rating them 5 out of 10 for their vegan options. I had the Curry Sandwich and the Yuzu-Gobo Sandwich, both of which were delicious. The desserts and bakery items are all vegan, made without milk or eggs, but using fish and seafood in some dishes.

In the summer of 2018 they only had a rice buffet (no burgers or curry and it is macrobiotic, so there is some fish. Most of the food had a tag in English but vegan or not was not always clear. It was hard to understand what the 3 possible options for the buffet were and how it worked without English menu. The staff knew little English but they really tried and were very patient. There is wifi so before going to the counter I recommand connecting to have some Google translate. They expected you to pour some sort of gazpacho and cold tea over the rice, which was pretty weird for Japan. Thirth pouring option contained fish. Not so much buffet choices, food was simple but OK. Very interesting peanut tofu, though. What made it worth coming here were the desserts and ginger ale: really delicous! (And certainly vegan, was clearly indicated on the menu in Japanese thanks, Google translate.

The staff were very helpful, telling me which dishes were vegan and catered for my peanut allergy. I had a set lunch meal for 1450 yen (A little pricey compared to other great places I visited that included a dessert in the price that consisted of a lovely salad, some pickled vegetables, rice and some delicious spring rolls. I would definitely visit again and try the other dishes :

They have a choice of different set menus with rice, soup, and salad. Don't be fooled by the photos--the portions are more generous than they seem. I'd say really great food for this price. The cake is wonderful too. Interiors are very cozy.

Not far from the #2 exit of Horohirabashi subway exit, is this gem of a vegetarian restaurant! It's a bit hard to find as the entrance is on the street level of an apt. building kind of in the back! Anyway, the food was amazing and you receive a large tray with the entree of your choice and a drink and salad and appetizer. Downstairs is a lovely gift shop with local organic products that are uncommon. They had hybrid beans (many) that I'd never seen in my life. The salad dressing was amazing and they even gave me a printout of the recipe!
