Local de mto bom gosto, elegância e conforto, carápio excellent e varied, com excellent letter de vinhos, otimo pra jantar à dois, o serviço é mto bom.

Thanks to TripAdvisor, I found this little gem! The only French restaurant in the state of Maranhão (that I know of). If you are going to be in São Luis on a Thursday, you must eat here!!! On Thursdays, this restaurant (that is captained by the most personable, avuncular chef I’ve ever met) does a tasting menu of 5 courses (it turned out to be 7 courses, but who’s complaining). The restaurant itself has a lost in time charm with wonderful servers. The wine list is limited but has many nice wines to choose from at very reasonable prices. There wasn’t a course that we didn’t love. The nicest touch is after the meal—Chef Romy (a Swiss expatriate) personally visits every table and spends some time with all his guests. Jaded cosmopolitans may find this lovely bistro passé, but I would rather eat here and enjoy classic dishes masterfully prepared than eat one molecular gastronomic creation. If you are in the city, you really ought to include Chez Romy on your “to do” list.
