Casa Vera - Santo Domingo

Food is okay, not the best but it is not bad and it is served fairly quickly. When I first visited this establishment about 1.5 years ago, it was perfect but now it feels understaffed and the new staff is not as friendly as the old one. The supervisors are very helpful however and helped manage the language barrier.

Bad. I ordered a red snapper with shrimps and mussels with a side of yellow rice. The mussels had a dead white color, far from even resembling fresh mussels. For whoever has not eaten fresh mussels before, they’re supposed to be reddish-orange. The fish was dipped in a flavorless and innecessary sauce that killed the taste of the seafood on that plate. The rice was almost as dull as the mussels. I ended up getting food poisoning. After dinner I ordered two beers; but they were out of beers too. I am astonished by the good reviews of this place, these customers have clearly never eaten proper food before. Casa Vera doesn’t deserve a second chance and should consider renaming to something other than Italian.
