La Vela - SANTA MARINA SALINA

Pleasant terrace with sea view, good to cool down in a canicular summer afternoon. You will have time, indeed, because the service can be incredibly slow. No menu, no prices, no pina colada. The only certainty is the price you will pay, definitely too high. Two aperol spritz and two small cannoli-al-pistacchio for 19 euro.

I’ll start from the perks: food is great, and La Vela is arguably the best looking cafeteria in Santa Marina. However, their employees are literally the worst you can imagine to start your day. I was about to pay €3,50 with a debit card when the lady told me €5 was the minimum. However, no ATM are available around and I had no chance to get there with all my luggages. In Italian, she told me that “My owner would kill me knowing that I’m allowing this”. Telephone line was in use so the transaction could not go through the first time at which point she screams in front of all the people that was me not having money even when the receipts stated “No connection”. We attempt again, this time going through at which se tells me that I couldn’t be picky and wishing 10 ATMs here. I am an Italian whose own an house in Salina, and being treated this way is utterly unacceptable in 2018.

Fish tasting menu 30 euro and superb value. Freshly prepared, well balanced, home baked focaccia to accompany, excellent wine, view from restaurant over shore to Lipari, happy waitress and altogether a great experience under 100 euro.. Why eat anywhere else?

Unsere schönste Erfahrung auf Lipari: Als ein wenig komplizierte Gäste wollten wir in der Sonne sitzen und nicht unter dem “Zeltdach”; Kurzhand wurden Tisch und Stühle auf der kaimauer gegessen...... chapeau!. was für ein Dienst!! Es folgte ein kulinarischer Orgasmus: Caponata auf seiner besten....Parmigiana der Superlative,Pasta della kam wieder zu uns.
