Snack Bar Mare Alta

Enjoyed a pleasant evening in this friendly restaurant. Helpful staff, good quality food, large portions, decent house wine, definitely worth a visit.

We had the swordfish steaks and tuna belly, which came with sweet potato, boiled potato and salad. All were fresh, delicious and served with a smile. We got a taxi from Tavira costing 5 euros and the waiter called for a return taxi for us which arrived within ten minutes. Be aware that the bread, olives and sardine pate that arrived to start are charged.

We had a good inexpensive meal in this restaurant on a day out in Tavira and Santa Luzia. The portion sizes for the swordfish and the tuna were good and these tasty, well-cooked dishes were good value. The house wine was also good.

We ate here several times last year and again several times this year. You can't go wrong. The food is delicious. Perfectly cooked and incredible value. I could eat those prawns every day (and did my best to on holiday). We also loved the clams, anchovies, Algarvian carrots, Mountain Salad, sardines and Dourada. The daily specials are always excellent too. And if you have any room left we'd recommend the lemon meringue pie. Yum.

It doesn´t matter what time of day you arrive there is something to eat for everyone. I also think that the menu offered by Carlos and his lovely wife is one of the best value for money in the area. After the afternoon service, there is still a great variety of tapas and tostas, great chilled wines and beers too! I would recommend the dried tuna on toast, the cod salad and, for me, always the prawns in garlic, ooh and the Algarvean carrots. Well worth a visit.
