Bonanza - Sanford

Old school (throwback to better days). Salad bar, steaks where can you go wrong? It's not Abe and Louis it's good food at a good price. Again salad bar that's got that old time feel(yes bacos bacon bits). That creamy Italian I remember from my youth. They are disappearing, and sadly so.

I was surprised to see that there 's still a Bonanza Steakhouse located in New England, in Sanford, ME of all places. Bonanza is owned by the same parent company as Ponderosa and Bennigan 's. I can fondly remember chowing down at Bonanza countless times back in the day when there were other locations in Laconia NH and Pittsfield MA, which have long been closed. I really enjoyed the country fried steak back then. Bonanza Steakhouse offers great value for the money including steaks, chicken, ribs, seafood, and sandwiches. Kids menu and toddler menus are available. The good sized all you can eat salad, soup and dessert bar is included with most entrees, which are priced under $10 except ribs) in 2010. The dinner prices with salad bar are in the $10.49-$16.99 range in 2016. The salad bar by itself is $7.99 before 4pm M-F) and $8.99 after 4pm weekends) in 2016. Self serve Pepsi fountain drinks and bottled beer are offered. On Fridays it 's 2 dinners for $20 tax included), which includes 2 Sirloin Tips Dinners, salad bar, and 2 fountain drinks. The setup of the restaurant is order and pay first given a number on the tray), then find a booth and the staff will deliver any prepared food to your table. Other than clearing used dishes from the table, the service here is nonexistent, you refill your own drink and grab clean plates/bowls near the far end of the salad bar. After a long day of riding, I stopped at Bonanza in Sanford to chow down and get the most bang for the buck. The long salad bar had over 50 items to choose from including greens, garnishes, dressings, cold salads macaroni, potato, cole slaw, seafood, tuna mac), cottage cheese, fruit, jello, puddings, frosted cupcakes, bread pudding, corn dogs, BBQ meatballs, potato wedges, melted cheese, chili, nachos, corn chowder, French onion soup, and more. There 's also a small sundae bar soft serve) too. The most of the food at the salad bar was decent, nothing to write home about However, the chili also had corn and meatballs in it they probably had extra meatballs). The low fat salad dressings except oil vinegar) are not at the salad bar, but available in individual packets Ken 's) near the clean dishes. For dinner, I had the Chicken Monterey $8.99 in 2010/$10.49 in 2016) which was pretty good, a chargrilled chicken breast topped with a tangy sauce and served with rice pilaf salty tasting) and buttery garlic toast. For dessert, I made my own sundae, which brought back the kid in me. I would give the overall food 2.5 stars, but I 'm rounding up because the very filling meal was priced right. Stopped just for the nostalgia of it. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. Really enjoyed the bacon cheeseburger along with the salad bar. Nothing fancy, the meal was delivered quickly, and everything was very good and fresh at the salad bar. If you're in the area, you should stop.

Sooooo I needed to scratch a nostalgia itch and dragged the huzz to this Bonizzle. As a child in the late 70s and early 80s my family ate at various Bonanza 's regularly. Restaurants were located everywhere throughout the northeast back then however there are hardly any left today. This relic of yesteryear is still standing and still feels like 1985 inside! The teriyaki steak tips were a side dish sized portion of tiny beef trimmings. It came with cooked to rubber canned corn as well as some steak fries that were actually the bright spot of the meal. The skewer of shrimp was drenched in oil baste and they use tiny shrimp. It was fine. The cheeseburger is on par with wendy 's but with less flavor. The salad part of the bar was limited. The dessert bar was fine commercial brownies and cupcakes as well as a soft serv machine with cones. This would be great for kids. We didn 't do any of the hot items from the bar. Drinks are pepsi products (do the dew! and refills are free. Its not really recommended for anything other than a nostalgia trip. Three stars for that. The concept and flavors are on par with dining out in the 80s. The portions on the entrees are small which could be their way of making up cost on the unlimited food bar. Its worth mentioning that the employees were nice and the manager was pleasant and present checking on patrons. Also, the place was clean. Its your call.

My fav is the fried chicken especially on Tuesdays it comes with the salad bar ..... all walks of life frequent the place .... maybe some don't agree with me but all in all a great place to dine
