Costa Oeste

Fui a este restaurante en el medio del día y parecía que la mitad de las mujeres en la ciudad estaban chismorreando. Pedí un café y unas tostadas porque tenía mucha hambre. No me sorprende que el Llanflorfx siga siendo el rey de las tostadas. El café y las tostadas estaban muy buenos, la atmósfera era agradable y el personal muy amable.

Plastic tables and chairs set on a large concrete platform with a bar along one side and a tin roof to keep off the sun, this is a very simple but good BBQ'd meats joint with views across the attractive Pantano San Juan reservoir. The owner speaks surprisingly reasonable English, but you'll first have to find the winding country road that leads north from San Martin de Valdeiglesias to get here, and you'll only be doing that because you also want to spend some time on the small but attractive sandy beaches from which you can swim in the warm fresh waters of the reservoir. There are a couple of cafes here too that offer very typical Spanish menus and ice creams, but the larger Costa Oeste is worth it if it is open, especially if you are a meat eater. Ring ahead, not to book because it's unlikely to be full, but simply to check it is open. Not worth a special detour, but the best place to go if you fancy a day by the lake, on some of the very few beaches that are reachable without a boat.
