Supreme Dog - San Jose

I'm parked uncomfortably at a 10-minute-only spot in front of a 7-Eleven near San Jose State University. Joe, the manager of the Happy Dog next door, informs me that my pork pineapple sausage will take about seven minutes to prepare. The silver lining is that my hot dog will be made fresh to order.

The ultimate destination for hot dogs! They offer a great variety and the flavors are delicious. If you're looking for some conversation and the owner is around, feel free to strike up a chat—he's friendly and approachable, but he’ll also respect your space if you prefer to keep to yourself.

The Red Hot Cajun dog is also delicious. All the hot dogs here are grilled, and the service is the most relaxed yet efficient you're likely to find. The staff casually asks, "What do you want? Want cheese? What kind of chips?" They check to see if your order is on the grill and rummage under the counter for chips. Just a heads up: they tend to stock big boxes of assorted chips from Costco, so you might not find your favorite since everyone else has grabbed the good ones. But where else in San Jose can you get Ginger Ale? My friend enjoys the chili but suspects it may not be homemade. The cheesecake dessert is locally renowned. It's good—definitely glad they're promoting the bakery—but it doesn't wow me enough to order it every time. While waiting, you can admire the funky tile walls or enjoy the sight of the adorable college guys from SJSU who come wandering in. Alternatively, you can step outside to a nice little garden, even if it feels like you're eating on furniture made from old telephone cable reels.

Got the Kielbasa and Pineapple and it was good. Guy was really cool and the outdoor seating was nice. Wasn't busy on the Saturday night, but I can see that parking might get tight when people come through to go to the 7-Eleven next door.

Upon entering the store, my order was taken, and after a short wait was ready. Everything was perfectly grilled, drinks were cold, fries are crispy and hot. Enjoyed my meal on the patio with a soft breeze. Great spot for people watching, menu boards were updated recently.
