Jackie's Place - San Jose

We were recommended this restaurant by a local friend. It offers classic soul food, and the service was good. Overall, the food was decent. My friend ordered the oxtail, which he said was excellent. I tried the fried fish with black-eyed peas and collard greens, but I found it a bit too salty for my taste. However, the staff was friendly and very helpful.

I recommend this restaurant! The food is excellent, but the service can be quite slow. You can speed up the ordering process by using the QR code available at each table. I did encounter one staff member who was a bit rude, but the employee who was cleaning tables was fantastic. The parking situation is quite limited and often full. If you plan to visit for lunch on a weekend, be prepared to wait over an hour. Keep that in mind! The space is small and it can be difficult to have a normal conversation due to the noise; it's one of the loudest restaurants I've ever been to. Despite these issues, the food is really good, and I still highly recommend this place!

The food was excellent, the staff were extremely friendly, the portion sizes were generous, and the prices were quite reasonable—what else can you ask for? We ordered a combo plate with ribs and brisket, along with nachos, and neither of us could finish our meals. The ribs were cooked to perfection, and we will definitely return. It was quite busy for lunch on a Friday, but we didn't have to wait long at all. The restaurant appeared to be very clean, and there was ample parking available.

A good option if you are craving soul food. The staff is friendly, and the place is super clean and with a lot of natural light. Be aware they are suffering (like many others) from a lack of staff, so the wait could be longer than expected. For lunch, I ordered: Chicken and Waffles Mac and cheese Coleslaw Food arrives at the right temperature, with flavor and the texture you appreciate every bite. And PLEASE, do yourself a favor and order its banana pudding... chef's kiss.

Came here with a coworker and had a good lunch. Ordered the cracks-lacking, and a cup of seafood gumbo. Food came out fast and hot, good flavor and portion size. Place was clean and friendly staff. Wasn’t sure if I needed to flag down a waiter, or order through the phone, but never ended up getting a drink refill, not a huge deal. Would like to come back and sample some pies.
