The Codmother Fish Chips

Found this cute food truck/restaurant and had to try the fish chips. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced for San Francisco. They also have a nice little courtyard type area with picnic tables to eat at.Food: 5/5

How do you manage to make bad fried food? This place has figured it out. We ordered the fish and chips, and everything was tasteless. The fries—oh, the fries—were so dry and unappetizing. If a restaurant has "Chips" in its name, you’d expect the fries to be crispy and flavorful, but these were just dry and soggy. Not even malt vinegar could save them. The fried cod was decent, but still not great. The batter was reminiscent of Japanese tempura—moist but also lacking in flavor. Everyone seems to rave about this place, but I just don't understand why. I would recommend spending $16 on good fried food somewhere else.

Two fish tacos were just under $12. Tacos were good, not great. Be careful, the fish had just come out of the fryer and was piping hot. Waited about five minutes for the fish to cool off some. Portion size is very good. The tortillas should be grilled, they are served at room temperature. You'll have to wait about 15-20 minutes for your order to be ready. The wait is a good thing because that means they are cooking to order, your food will be freshly cooked. Next time I will definitely order the fish-shrimp-chips combo. We ordered a combo meal that included shrimp, fish, and garlic cheese fries. There was more than enough food for the two of us to share. I really enjoyed the light batter on the shrimp, the large piece of fish, and the generous portion of fries. My only wish is that the drinks weren’t just canned soda, but I get that the location caters to people on the go. There were plenty of tables available, with a few offering shade from umbrellas. The restrooms are a block away and require a code for access, so make sure to ask for that before heading over. I highly recommend dining here and would definitely return if I’m in the area again.

I placed an online order, and it was ready by the time we arrived. The batter was incredibly crispy and delightful, perfectly surrounding the tender and flavorful whitefish. The fries were also crispy and made fresh. While the Baka garlic sauce was delicious, the fries didn't even need any sauce because they were so fresh and crispy. Overall, I would rate the food a perfect 5/5.
