Tempest - San Francisco

Wonderful funky little dive with great name. Found it accidentally and intrigued by the Tempest since I named my daughter after Miranda in Shakespeare play of same name. Rowdy happy atmosphere with lots of music, drinking (white Russian was boss). Small menu but food was good and plentiful.

Pretty fun bar, there's a pool table but it gets a bit crowded on weekends. Their fries and burgers are amazing! Drink options are pretty good and the staff are usually pretty friendly, although it took over an hour for us to get fries on a busy night for one visit. The music is very loud which some people like but I found it hard to talk with friends.

I love the food there. It's bar snack food. I wouldn't consider it to be a restaurant. I've bought food here maybe 5 times and was happy with it each time. They prefer you to pay with card. The sign says no cash but they were nice enough to let me pay with cash. Happy customer

Initially, the bartender was a bit busy, but when she took our order, she didn't rush us at all and even offered us samples of the beers we were considering. We ordered fried pickles and french fries, and the fries were definitely the standout; they were delicious, especially with the spicy mayo sauce. I tried the "Dry Me a River" cocktail with Jack Daniels, which was quite good. The mango beer was really enjoyable as well, with a nice tangy flavor that I loved. The prices for the beer were reasonable by San Francisco standards. Overall, this is a fantastic spot in downtown for late-night drinks, food, and a game of pool with friends. I would have given it five stars if the table had been cleaner; it felt sticky from a drink that had been spilled earlier.

I visited for the first time on Thursday (12/23/21) and absolutely loved the atmosphere. It was great to see that everyone was following Covid protocols. The staff was fantastic and very attentive. The Box Burger was a standout and truly tantalized my taste buds. I will definitely be coming back and will recommend this place to others. The food was delicious, and I also enjoyed the pool table. Keep up the great work, Tempest staff—you’re all awesome!
