Proper Food - San Francisco

This is a convenient takeout spot with prepackaged meals that they can heat up for you. While the food tastes fresh, it’s nothing out of the ordinary. If you're looking for a quick lunch that’s better than average but won’t leave you feeling disappointed, this place is a good option.

My first time trying Proper Food. The ingredients were really fresh in the Quinoa Tabouli Salad with Chicken $13) and Green Tea Soba Noodle with Sesame Chicken $14), and they were good sized portions.

The bigger challenge for them now is that nearly all their locations are in the Financial District, where offices have not yet reopened. And when they do reopen, there will likely be significantly fewer office workers in the area. When I return, I'll definitely be ordering my favorite salad: the $13.95 Pulpo Primavera, featuring tender braised octopus tentacles, garbanzo beans, arugula, frisée, salsa verde, pimento, and lemon. On previous visits, I also enjoyed the Coconut Prawn Kale Salad and, on days when I felt a bit guilty about my calorie intake, the Lemon Quinoa Salad. If you have a hearty appetite and don’t mind spending a little extra, these options are all fantastic. Here's my breakdown: - FOOD: 4 stars — It's a delight to have braised octopus with your salad. - AMBIANCE: 3.5 stars — All locations have a clean look, which makes for convenient pick-up. - SERVICE: 3.5 stars — Checkout is quick, especially when there's no line. - TOTAL: 4 stars — It's a proper choice during a pandemic. I was in a rush and had one of my colleagues surprise me. Let me tell you, The Italian did not disappoint. It was one of the best sandwiches I 've had in my life. Good Food. Great Value.
