It's what you'd expect from a typical Hong Kong Cafe. Hearty and comfort food from your childhood if you're Chinese. Portions are on the smaller side, so if you're thinking about sharing, I hope you're dining with no more than 1-2 extra person, max. Needless to say, most of the food here seems to be individual portioning. Price seems fair for the most part, but what would normally be the sharable items like chow fun and fried rice isn't the best bang for your buck considering the small sizes. Flavor wise, the food gets a pass from me. Don't expect to be wowed, because at least to me, HK cafes aren't really known to be fancy and flavorful like what you'd expect from other Chinese establishments. To me, they're more for quick bites. This is a non-frills place, nothing fancy to write home about, but you get in and you get out. Like many others have said already, this is a cash only place. While I understand why, you'd imagine they'd get with the times and have at bare minimum, payment options like Zelle or Venmo, but it is what it is. This wouldn't be my first choice, but if you're in the area and want some comfort food, then at least give it a try. It gets the job done.
I visited the restaurant for lunch today, and while the food was decent, there were several issues. First, we ordered the Mongolian beef over rice, but it should really be called “onion over rice” because there was hardly any meat in it. We also tried the chicken chow mein, which was a disappointment as the noodles were thin and hard—definitely not what I expected from chow mein. Additionally, I was aware that the restaurant only accepts cash, but when we received our bill, we noticed a 15% service charge added without any prior notice. Since it was only the two of us, I found this surprising, and there was no indication anywhere that a service fee would be applied. It would have been considerate for them to inform us beforehand. Lastly, the servers were rude and didn’t check on us at all during our meal.
Good food. Not sure why ppl give them bad reviews…Salted pepper pork chops, broccoli beef and baked pork chops are our go tos and consistent.
I just read on a review for 2546 Cafe and it read, their baked seafood rice has no seafood only mushroom and lots of onion. My experience was 30 minutes ago I ordered chicken chow mien , just to try how they make it.,They charged me $13.85 and when I got home the chicken was nowhere to be seen all I got was a baby portion container , thin noodles with soy sauce . i am not the first and more will come after me, never going back. Dim Sum Kitchen makes it better and I will never try anyone 's else chicken chow mein on San Bruno Av. Be Well!
