The Mine Shaft - San Antonio

Place hasn't changed much as far as quality of food. It's been decades since I've eaten here, and the quality and quantity of its meals are superb. A little more kiddie oriented than I recall, though. I recommend the Adam's cut of the prime rib only as I had a combo of prime rib and lobster tail. Whew, I can eat a lot! Server was a pirate character who gave quite a performance. Well worth his tip.

This place is definitely geared for families with kids. From the second you walk in, you are bombarded with overdone decor. Everywhere. I mean absolutely everywhere. The servers are all dressed as characters from movies, shows or comics. There is a bunch for kids to do like face painting, arcade games, and fun music. They refer to iced tea as dirty water. It's a simple menu so there isn't much of a selection. The food is meh. Everyone in my party didn't seem to thrilled with their food. Don't try to define the theme of this place. It clearly doesn't have one. If you easily get over stimulated, just stay away.

Magic Time Machines is located just a 4-minute drive north of New Heights Dental Braces in San Antonio.

Starting off with the ambiance, it remains unchanged from 30 years ago. Our server was so irritating that my normally composed wife had to ask her to leave. The fried cheese arrived lukewarm, which was worrying enough, but the fact that it took only 2 minutes from ordering to receiving it was even more concerning. The main course was even more disappointing - my chicken alfredo was undercooked and my wife's chicken breast was dry, with vegetables that were nearly rubbery. The kids attempted to eat their chicken fingers and pizza, but both were too greasy and unpleasant in taste for them to finish. My wife adamantly declared that we would never return, while the kids even went as far as saying that Steak and Shake was a better option. Considering the high price we paid and the lack of quality all around, we will not be returning. Even my child, who despises math, claimed she would rather be doing her math homework than dining at this establishment again!
