L'Ottavo San Francisco

Matador is a gem in the over priced restaurant scene of downtown S.F.. The food is reminiscent of Mexico City, so although there are many standard dishes such a burritos and tacos, the flavors are unique and high end. Think gourmet Mexican food, but without the high price tag. The cocktails were colorful, tasty, and different than standard margaritas. Our hostess seated us right away although we were early for our reservation, and our waitstaff was attentive without being overbearing. This is our new "go to" when downtown!

The noise level was beyond incredible. If you are over think again about eating here.

Service was great, but the food was on the cheap side. The nachos had the cheese sauce versus real cheese. Guac was watered down. Wouldn’t go back.

The food is very good. We had the guacamole and chips and the esquite for appetizers. Both were excellent. I had the three tacos and my son had the chicken quesadilla with chicken mole. Both the tacos and quesadilla were good. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had reservations for outside seating, but they were able to accommodate us with an inside table. I asked for a **** Maria to be made with a smoky mezcal instead of tequila it was delicious, I wish I had asked which mezcal they used Would recommend.

Was no point in setting a reservation when you were seated minutes later. There was no acknowledgement by the staff of those waiting in line unless you were able to get the staff's attention to let them know you were waiting. Customer service was very poor.
