Contribuiți la feedbackIt was busy when I went, but of course that was during the new years eve crowd, and my girlfriend and I were able to get in line for a table. We got sat later on, and had a server come up after a few moments, and they at first were unable to serve water probably due to the high volume of patrons. My girlfriend was able to order a customized cocktail with ease, but when it came to me asking questions about certain selections of alcohol the server seemed annoyed and unwilling to search/ask. So I felt rushed and advised I 'll look before ordering. I didnt find my first option, so I then ordered my go to shots. However I still wanted a cocktail for the evening. I then asked the server if they can make one, to which I was given attitude and them saying we dont make complex cocktails , and then I looked at my girlfriends drink which was not a common order , and just said nevermind. My girlfriend took the liberty to ask a female bartender about the drink, said she can make it with a slight modification, and brought it back to me. Then throughout the night the server was very attentive. I 'm a simple man, not asking for much, but my girlfriend even picked up on the way I was treated.
The Esquire Tavern, touted as the oldest tavern in San Antonio, did not disappoint these travelers from NC. The tranquil setting, historical attributes, and plentiful libations provided a memorable evening on the San Antonio river walk. The dim lighting, unmistakable charm, and inviting ambience bespoke of an unforgettable bar experience. The story goes that The Esquire Tavern was established in 1933, a celebration of the end of Prohibition. On the day that prohibition ended, The Esquire Tavern was mysteriously stocked and prepared to serve the masses. Since that time, it has been a favorite watering hole for locals and tourist alike. Upon entering, we sat at the bar and we were welcomed with genuineness and warmth. I enjoyed a passion fruit margarita and my friend enjoyed his traditional crown And coke. The country fried steak and potatoes were delicious and the portion size was more than I could handle. When we return to San Antonio, we will definitely visit the Esquire tavern! We were downstairs, no TVs for the game. Did have an elevator to go back up to use Restrooms. Get together with friends. Had a mysterious drink....yuk.
Haven't been to this place since my drinking days over 20+ years. Came with a coworker from out of town and from what I was told the drinks were spot on. We didn't eat so Im not eating the food. Atmosphere was top notch, keeping the place semi dark/lighted gave it warm feel. I definitely be bacj
The service was okay, but I think they were too busy for the number of people serving. I had an Old Fashioned that was subpar and my wife had one of the other cocktails that was also mid tier. She had the chicken sandwich that was bland, but still managed to have an overpowering amount of what tasted like Italian seasoning. I had the Bison Burger and it was pretty good. The mashed potatoes could have done with a bit of salt, but that seemed to be missing in all of the food. We had the fried apple pie for dessert and it was doused in a cinnamon sauce that overpowered everything. You couldn't really enjoy the pastry because it was soaked in that sauce. It felt like I was doing the cinnamon challenge. It's a nice concept that needs some attention to detail.
