I absolutely LOVE this place! The only downside is when they’re closed. I drove all the way from the Bay Area, looking forward to dinner and drinks, but when I arrived, it was dark. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to try again!
We were informed that the gas was out and they were setting up barbecues in the back, which meant a significant wait. We were seated fairly quickly and then asked to move to a quieter table, which the waitstaff handled well. However, the waiting continued. We had drinks but found ourselves waiting and waiting. Meanwhile, the musical duo played as though they were in a nightclub rather than a nice dinner setting. The flutist even ventured into the crowd, becoming quite intrusive and loud. While he was talented, his performance felt out of place for the occasion. The female vocalist chose a suggestive Marvin Gaye song with a 10- to 12-year-old present, which was inappropriate. Finally, our steak and lobster arrived. We had no choice in how the steak was cooked (it was served rare), and while the lobster was of decent size, it came without butter or any accompaniments, and both dishes were barely warm. We received our appetizer after our main courses, with no salad or bread offered. When we inquired about dessert, we were brought cheesecake, which was just average. We had been told that one round of drinks was complimentary, which was a nice gesture. Our total bill came to $127. While the time spent with my wife was priceless, the quality of the food, its preparation, and presentation left much to be desired, especially considering we were charged full price despite the numerous issues. We heard multiple apologies from the wait staff, who seemed genuinely embarrassed, but there was no acknowledgment or support from the ownership or management. With a tip, we ended up spending over $150. My wife's company usually transforms any occasion into something special, but we could have chosen from many other restaurants and enjoyed a much better experience. Additionally, we noticed other diners ordering from a regular menu, but we had no idea that was an option since it wasn’t posted and no menus were on the tables. Overall, we give The Black Bart Inn a "Black Eye" for this Valentine's Day debacle.
I do not recommend this place. Where do I even begin? We paid for a week-long stay and will not be returning. There were no coffee makers or refrigerators in our room, and we had to request a microwave, which arrived dirty. Not a single housekeeper knocked on our door all week asking if we needed anything. Whenever we needed clean towels or soap, we had to walk all the way to the front desk, and there was no phone in the room to call for assistance! We even had to ask for our sheets to be changed, and it felt like we were imposing rather than receiving help. For the price we paid, this experience was definitely not worth it. I've stayed at many hotels, and this one ranks among the worst. The rooms are decent, but there are no amenities whatsoever—no breakfast, nothing. We're checking out in the morning and heading somewhere else.
