El Abuelo - Salou

The place looked nice and a lot of Spanish patrons rather than rowdy tourists. The waiter well not a pleasant chap very abrupt, threw the menus on the table. The ambiance of the restaurant was great, people seemed to be enjoying their food. We started off with grilled cuttlefish which was divine and tender. For mains we both had the half-roast chicken with a gravy spooned over it, and served with chips and a small salad. The chicken was juicy and tasty and the gravy was not overpowering. The prices are in line with the rest of the restaurants in the area.

I wish wish I had read reviews before coming . My brother in law is Spanish so I’ve eaten my fair share of paella , in my 46 years it was without doubt the worst one I’ve ever tried . Got it between 4 to share and we all had two bites max , over cooked meat and fish , no taste . Left 90% easy and when complained the rudest waiter I’ve ever spoken with said “ that’s paella “ as if I had no idea what I’m talking about , refused to take any off bill Avoid this place like the plague . €140 we will never see again from the worst restaurant I have ever been and it’s in soul ting to restaurants to call it that! AVOID AVOID AVOID

I can see why this place has so many mixed reviews and it’s all about their service, certainly not around the food we ate. Baby squid, crispy and melted in the mouth all at the same time. Mussels fisherman style were fresh and moorish, sardines were nice and meaty. Potatoes bravos were just the same as everywhere put with fe mussels sauce another level. Would I return probably just for the tapas. I wouldn’t have the normal stuff you get everywhere else. They certainly need to work on there customer service and train the staff better

Buen sitio para comer y abundante, lo único el servicio un poco lento y despistado, pero en general bien.

Plato combinado en abundancia, con filete de ternera jugoso, tierno y buen tamaño. Rapidez en el servicio. Amabilidad camarero. Los baños al ser un edificio antiguo están arriba con una escalera empinada. Nada recomendable para personas con movilidad reducida.
