We came on a Thursday afternoon right at opening time and was able to get a table for 6 people (recommend making reservations in advance as the place filled up quickly) Looked like lots of locals who were very familiar with the menu items. Besides the menu, there is a very nice specials board on the wall that you can choose from. We ordered the following: 1 bottle of New Zealand Sauv Blanc $21.50 UK 1 Sharing Board olives, focaccia, olive oil, balsamic, tomatoes, feta stuffed peppers, ham and venison pate $15 UK very large portion! 1 pork belly over mashed potatoes with broccolini tasty entree $15.95 UK 1 Shrimp Sandwich HUGE portion with side salad and delicious fries $8 UK 1 Special Rocket salad with fried goat cheese cheese was rich and very mild. $7.95 UK 1 childs plate $6.95 UK All portions were just enormous and it was hard to finish all of the plates. In total for 4 adults and 2 children $93.30 UK! Such a deal! Our waitress was very helpful and very attentive to our needs. We would definitely return.
This is a traditional country pub that remains a central part of the village community. Locally produced milk is sold in a vending machine in the car park, a real taste of the country. The menu is varied and meals are fairly priced, and service is very good. Local beers and guest ales are featured. There is an open fire and a warm welcome. A large pub garden is a popular attraction in the right weather. Although outside the city there is a bus service and it is within walking distance of the hospital. Definitely worth a visit. Vegetarian options are available.
